Stay Hipp At Home

Hi all,
I am about to purchase an Excalibur dehydrator but have a few questions for those of you who have experience with them.

Do you think a 9-tray is the way to go even though I hear it can be very noisy to operate? My kitchen opens to the rest of the apartment so that I would hear it throughout if it is very loud.

Is a timer absolutely necessary?

What is the difference between the 2900 and the 3900 models?
What do you have and recommend?

Thanks so much!
Genene

Hi Cindy,
well I did not hear back from anyone but I did call Excalibur and read reviews on Amazon.
I decided for me that the 5-tray was better because the 9-tray is definitely louder and would be an issue for anyone in a smaller or open place with no alternative room to put it in.

The 3000 models are upgraded materials and apparently better quality. But the noise issue is the same for any series: if it's a 9-tray, it's going to be louder (the fan apparently).

Order by April 30th direct from Excalibur and they include a whole bunch of freebies like the 10-year warranty which is normally extra.

As for the timer - I decided to get the one with it since it shuts off automatically if you're not home. It's for up to 26 hours.

HI Genene,
I have the 9 trays and i love it. I use it a lot for making my "Sun" dried tomatoes, Pies, loafs etc...
It is noisy so... If you work outside you might want to put the dehydrator on just before you leave for work. Or you can have it on your balcony and let it work at night (pray that your neighbors can't hear it.)

Hope it helps

Hi,

we went with the 5-tray, though I was tempted to get the 9-tray. I think 5 trays is enough unless you are making food for more than 3-4 people and you anticipate preparing a lot of dehydrated food.

definitely go for the timer. don't know what the difference is between 2900 and 3900.

btw- check out our blog about Hippocrates Health Institute for great content straight from Dr. Brian Clement
